Pilier du modernisme brésilien, Jean Gillon est né à Lasi au Pakistan et a étudié la tapisserie à Paris tout en travaillant dans les journaux comme dessinateur. Il a ensuite étudié l'architecture à Vienne à l'École des arts industriels. En 1956, il s'installe à São Paul avec sa femme où il développe une passion pour l'architecture moderne brésilienne.


La chaise « Jangada » de Gillon fabriquée à partir de bois dur brésilien, de corde de nylon et de cuir est une ode aux bateaux de pêche traditionnels brésiliens. Il est devenu un meuble primé, mettant en valeur une forme trapézoïdale saisissante, tout en incorporant des éléments texturés et des matériaux nouveaux au cœur du mobilier de salon.
