More About This Item

A pillar of Brazilian modernism, Jean Gillon was born in Lasi, Pakistan and studied tapestry in Paris while working in newspapers as a cartoonist. He then moved on to study architecture in Vienna at The School of Industrial Arts. In 1956, he moved to São Paul with his wife where he developed a passion for Brazilian modern architecture.

Gillon's "Jangada" chair made out of Brazilian hardwood, nylon rope, and leather is an ode to traditional Brazilian fishing boats. It became an award winning furniture piece, highlighting a striking trapezoidal shape, while incorporating textured elements and materials new to the heart of lounge furniture.
