Itzchak Tarkay (1935–2012) was an Israeli artist known for his vibrant, impressionistic depictions of elegant women in cafés and leisure settings. Born in Subotica, Yugoslavia, he survived internment in a concentration camp during World War II before immigrating to Israel in 1949. He studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and later developed a distinctive style influenced by Toulouse-Lautrec and Matisse, blending rich colors with fluid lines. Tarkay’s paintings and serigraphs gained international recognition, making him a prominent figure in contemporary figurative art. His work remains highly collectible and continues to inspire artists worldwide.
